Amber Ale - all extract

E-mail Print PDF

This was my very first homebrew!  It was an all extract amber ale kit that came with my initial brewing equipment.  Here's the link to the kit from the seller I bought from.  This kit resulted in a pretty decent amber with some nice hop character including more bitterness than I anticipated - I guess the pre-hopped extract combined with the included hop pellets got the job done.

Since it's a kit I'm not sure how much good it is to post the ingredients, but here they are:

  1. 1.5 kg can Munton's "Hopped Amber" Liquid Malt Extract
  2. 2 lbs Munton's light Dry Malt Extract
  3. 1 oz. UK Gold First hop pellets
  4. packet Munton's dry brewing yeast (Ale)
  5. 5 oz dextrose (primer for bottling)

This  was a simple boil with 1.5 gal of water.  Added cold water in fermenter to make 5 gal total.

Initial grav ~1.047

Final grav ~1.020 <- this is wrong as it was taken *after* I added the priming sugar (oops, first brew)
